One of the biggest questions I receive from moms is “what do we all wear for our newborn session?!” Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with this post! I recommend starting with Mom first. Once you have a dress that you love and is flattering, you can pick everyone’s outfit/color scheme based on your outfit. Moms: Always start with long, flowy dresses without a pattern. Creams, whites, and other neutrals look great and photograph really well. We have a full wardrobe of dresses for new moms that you can choose from as well! If you’d prefer to purchase your own dress, we are loving Baltic Born, Pink Blush Maternity and Wren & Ivory for online options. Dads: Get your favorite long sleeve button up or a fitted crew neck shirt then pair it with a nice pair of jeans! Jeans tend to photograph better than dress pants, just FYI. Lighter, neutral colors are best!
Sisters: Sleeveless or short-sleeve dresses in a neutral color palette look great in photos! Remember, nothing too bulky around the shoulders or neck, as they will be laying down for some of the photos. Also, be sure to avoid big hair bows. They will be barefoot during the session, so shoes aren’t necessary for planning purposes. Be sure to check out these local stores: H&M, Zara, Gap Kids, Rockin’ AB, Willow House Kids.

Are you interested in a newborn photography session with us? Due to limited availability each month, we recommend scheduling your session a few months in advance. The session ideally takes place when your baby is between 6 and 14 days old; this helps to ensure they are young and sleepy and easy to pose! All newborn sessions are held in our downtown Mckinney photography studio. We provide all the wraps, props, outfits, and headbands that you’ll need for your session!
