If you’re reading this, then chances are you’re planning for newborn photos in the near future. First of all, congratulations! This is such an exciting time for you and your growing family! I wanted to put together our most commonly asked questions to help everyone that’s in the season of planning for newborn photos. See below and let us know in the comments if we missed any!
When Should I Schedule My Newborn Photography Session?
We always recommend scheduling your session in advance, typically during your second trimester. We definitely do our best to take last minute bookings, but take a limited amount of due dates each month and typically fill up quickly.
What Do I Wear For My Photos?
We recommend starting with Mom first. Once you have a dress that you love and is flattering, you can pick everyone’s outfit/color scheme based on your outfit. When in doubt – stick with neutrals! We’ve created a blog post that breaks down each family members outfit, which you can read here. You can always check out my Pinterest page, too!
How Old Should My Baby Be During Their Newborn Session?
We like to schedule newborn sessions when your baby is between 7 and 15 days old. Ideally this is when your newborn is still sleepy and flexible, allowing us to get your baby into all those curled up cute poses! Of course we can take older babies (and have done newborns up to 8 weeks) we just may have a few more awake shots!
When Is The Best Time To Take Maternity Photos?
We absolutely love maternity sessions and being able to document such a special time in your pregnancy! Typically we recommend doing your maternity photoshoot between 30 and 35 weeks. We of course want you to be showing, but also don’t want to get too close to your due date in case you deliver early!
Do You Offer In-Home Sessions?
We do not offer in home sessions as each newborn session requires so much stuff! Our lighting equipment, posing table, props, wraps, outfits, headbands, etc. are just too hard to travel with. Laura’s trained assistant is at every newborn session to ensure everything goes smoothly as well. We do have a bed and couch setup in our studio for more of that lifestyle/in-home look and we include that in all of our sessions!
